Abstract: This descriptive-correlational research aimed to determine the factors influencing the speaking performance among 34 English majors of a private university in Iloilo City. A researcher-made data-gathering instrument was used for this research. Frequency counts, and percentages were used in the descriptive data analysis while the Chi-square test was used in the inferential data analysis. Results of the study revealed that English majors were females, sometimes used English in daily conversations, rated themselves good in speaking English, spent 4 to 8 hours watching foreign English movies/TV programs, had either low or high self-confidence, and had low grades in Speech. Furthermore, the speaking performance of the English majors was found to be not significantly related to their sex, year level, use of English language in daily conversations, self-rating of spoken English, hours spent in watching foreign English movies/TV programs per week, and self-confidence.  Moreover, the speaking performance of the students was found to be significantly related to their grades in Speech.

The results showed that the variables of team category, points obtained in the break point phase, number of reception errors, and number of blocked attacks by the opponent were important factors of winning or losing the matches. Odds ratios indicated that the odds of winning a volleyball match were greater for the teams belonging to higher rankings and that every additional point in service, dig, receptions, block, and attack increased the odds of winning a match.
